3 steps for giving the best gifts

Gift giving can feel stressful. Getting the right gift. Do you need a gift? There are so many questions. Then the holidays roll around and you feel like you need dozens of gifts. What’s a lady to do?

Breathe. You are getting started in the right spot and you got this. Follow these steps below to kill the overwhelm.

  1. Eliminate distractions

  2. Focus on the person receiving the gift and the purpose of the gift

  3. Use the Gift Giver Guide to help you brainstorm the perfect gift.

Eliminate Distractions

First step to great gift-giving is to have a spot where you can focus and brainstorm. Roaming around the mall or scrolling through websites aimlessly looking for a gift will never get you the perfect gift. My preference is a pen and paper, my favorite spot on the couch, and my favorite playlist. Since it is the holiday season it is probably Christmas music for me.

Focus on the Person

Now to really think about the person getting this gift. Let’s use the example of my husband. My toughest gift of the year. He is an excellent gift giver so I always feel extra pressure to up my game on his gift. Focusing on him I think about the last few times we have really had a great time. What conversations got him really excited. What he loves, but hasn’t done in a while. This just puts me in a headspace where he is my focus. Not anything else. I always want my gift to let him know I have been listening. With kids around adult conversation is often an afterthought or done in bits and pieces. It is easy for it to seem like I am not present and listening to him.
